Elvira Coda Notari Award 2025 – Short Film School Fest
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elvira Coda Notari, the first Italian female director, the cultural association Nessuno e Centomila in collaboration with the Fondazione Gagliardi Marino Angeloni presents the first edition of the Elvira Coda Notari Award 2025 – Short Film School Fest, to be held in Cava de’ Tirreni dal from May 21 to May 24, 2025. The event is part of a series of initiatives organized by the Municipality of Cava de’ Tirreni to honor this significant anniversary. During the final ceremony, the Elvira Coda Notari Award 2025 will be presented to a woman who has excelled in her professionalism and contribution to the Italian cinematic landscape. The Short Film School Fest is an international short film competition involving students from Italian lower and upper secondary schools, international schools (participants aged 12 to 19), and emerging filmmakers, both Italian and international. The festival aims to promote creativity and teamwork through the production of short films. Organized by the Association Nessuno e Centomila, this event seeks to encourage the use of cinematic and audiovisual language as an educational and training tool. Participating schools will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in the cinematic field, with a particular focus on audiovisual production techniques and media. The competition is divided into four categories:
Lower secondary schools;
Upper secondary schools
International schools (students aged 12 to 19);
Emerging filmmakers (adult participants, both Italian and international).
The short films will be evaluated by a technical jury composed of experts in the film industry and a popular jury, which will include the audience present during the final screenings. Awards include recognition for the best short film in each category, best screenplay, best direction, best cinematography, best actor and actress, and the Popular Jury AwardAdditionally, the Elvira Coda Notari Award will be presented to a woman who has made a significant impact on Italian cinema.

Wednesday, May 21 - Screening of finalist short films from lower secondary schools.
Thursday, May 22 - Screening of finalist short films from upper secondary schools.
Friday, May 23 – Screening of finalist short films from international schools and emerging filmmakers.
Saturday, May 24 – Awards ceremony and screening of the winning short films.
Participation in the competition is free, and registrations are open until March 15, 2025. All works in foreign languages must include Italian subtitles. Completed projects must be submitted by March 30, 2025.
Elvira Coda Notari, born in 1875 in Salerno, was the first Italian female director and one of the most innovative figures in silent cinema. Founder of the Dora Film production company alongside her husband Nicola Notari, Elvira created over 60 films, often set in the working-class neighborhoods of Naples. Her works, characterized by a bold and realistic style, explored themes of significant social and moral relevance, breaking the traditional norms of cinema at the time. Her career had a lasting impact on Italian cinema, paving the way for future generations of filmmakers.
